Geography anyone?

The boys have found a new game they love... RISK. Remember RISK? My brother and I played it when we were younger. It's one of those battle strategy games that kids love to play. Well anyway, the boys were talking this morning about their latest battle and how Max almost took over New Guinea until Andrew wiped out all of his troops in Australia and I'm thinking - cool, they are going to learn some geography too, what a great game.

Then Max says, New Guinea - that's in Canada right mom? We went there last summer, right?

No - it's not in Canada and we've never been there, I said.

Oh yeah, right, Max replies - That was New Guineasburg!

New Guineasburg? What is he talking about? New Guinea, Canada, last summer's vacation? And then I got it...

Gettysburg? Do you mean Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Max?

and he replies, We went to Pennsylvania!?

A new phase?

It was a Saturday morning of football after a Friday evening of baseball and a Saturday afternoon with more baseball to come. It was on this day that G. looks at me and says excitedly "we're entering a new phase!" A new phase? He says it like I should be excited. A new phase? You mean a fold up chair sittin', Saturday morning watchin', afternoon practicin' - phase? And I am supposed to be excited about this?

This is quite possibly the moment I have been dreading since the day they were born. I knew the day would come where they would be more interested in daddy and sports than they would "need" their mommy. But so soon? Will my summers really be filled with hours and hours of watching games in a fold up chair in the hot sun, getting a spectator tan? I guess my girlfriend already answered that question when she said "you know you're not going to get out of it, right?"

I guess knowing and believing really are two different things...

Smell my mom!

On Tuesday I went to Max's school for his end of the year picnic. Before I left the house, I took a shower and used my new Body Shop lotion - Satsuma. If you haven't smelled it - you need to! It's delicious!

When I got to the classroom, Max ran over and gave me a hug. "Mmmm, you smell good mom!" Then he looks over to his teacher and says "Mr. Pinahi - come here and smell my mom!"

The grown-up world? What's that?

So last weekend we all went to Cincinnati and I had the pleasure of meeting my sister's latest boyfriend, Zach. As we were sitting down for dinner at a local restaurant, a rather heavy set guy walked by and Zach mentioned that he had on a "Chippendales" shirt. We both laughed thinking it was funny. I looked at Zach and said "do you know the difference between Chip and Dale?" With a puzzled look on his face, he answered "No, what?" I respond that Chip has a brown nose and Dale a red nose. There's a pause and then Zach said "Wait, I'm confused..." I looked at him like "how can that be confusing?" at which point we both realized that we were talking about two completely different things. Him - Chippendales and Me - the mom that I am - Chip and Dale! We both burst out laughing so hard we were crying. How embarrassing! Has it really been that long since I was in the grown-up world?

Be careful what you ask for

So we have one of those big jetted tubs in our master bathroom. The boys decided they wanted to take a bath together in it tonight. "Fine," I said, "as long as you don't splash water all over the bathroom." They understood. I was very clear and very firm about what I expected and they agreed that if they splashed they would have to clean ALL THREE bathrooms in the house as a result. A half hour later I peak my head into the bathroom and there is water everywhere! Wasn't I clear, why did this happen? I asked them what were they thinking. Their response... "we really wanted to clean all the bathrooms, mom!"
